COVID-19: Office Updates

Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to our office. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.

Our office follows infection control recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). We follow the activities of these agencies so that we are up-to-date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued. We do this to make sure that our infection control procedures are current and adhere to each agencies’ recommendations.

You may see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff.

Invisalign® Clear Aligners

There is no feeling quite as wonderful as sharing your smile with someone you care about and having that smile warmly returned. However, if you are ashamed of the appearance of your smile due to cosmetic alignment flaws, you may find yourself hiding your smile instead of sharing it.

While more severe alignment issues may require traditional dental braces, for less intensive dental work, clear aligners may be exactly what you need to restore your smile to its beautiful alignment. Discreet and easy, they can help fix issues with gaps, spaces, and uneven teeth. We here at Carolina Smiles Family Dentistry love seeing the transformation in our patients who get orthodontic treatment with clear Invisalign® dental aligners.

The Advantages Of Invisalign Aligners

Getting clear dental aligners is a great choice for many of our patients. They can provide many advantages over traditional orthodontic dental braces, allowing for some benefits to you. Many patients like to get orthodontic treatment with clear aligners not only because it is often faster and easier; it also is more subtle and less noticeable than traditional braces. This makes them a good option for professional adults and self-conscious teens.

Treatment with clear aligners often requires less time than traditional braces, with treatment often completed in as little as a year to 18 months. Conversely, dental braces may take between three to five years to complete. Furthermore, many patients find clear aligners to be more comfortable. They do not have the abrasive brackets that may cut your lips, cheeks, or gums. They are also easier to keep clean and do not require you to purchase special flossers to keep your teeth clean.

You can remove your clear aligners for up to two hours per day. That means that you can remove them for eating, photographs, and even brushing and flossing your teeth. As a bonus, you do not have to avoid eating your favorite foods out of fear of getting food stuck in your wires and brackets. Patients who use clear aligners can eat their favorite foods without worry!

Getting clear aligners is also more convenient for our patients. Unlike traditional braces, which require frequent appointments for adjustments, you will not have to take so much time out of your life to constantly schedule follow up appointments with us. While you will need to come in every two weeks to pick up your next set of trays, you will only need a follow up with us every four to six weeks to check your progress.

Who Is A Candidate For Clear Aligners?

Patients who are good candidates for clear aligners are patients who are good at taking care of their teeth, have realistic expectations of the outcome, and do not have severe bite issues. They are recommended for adults and older teens who have already gotten all of their permanent adult teeth.

Invisalign clear aligners can help treat a variety of mild to moderate orthodontic problems, including teeth that are overcrowded, have uneven gaps and spaces between them, and issues with malocclusion. This includes overbite, underbite, open bite, and crossbite.
