There was a time when if you had stained teeth or a little chip, a small gap or a tooth that was shorter than the rest, there was virtually nothing you could do about it or if you could fix it, the fix was clunky and noticeable. Well, those days are gone.
Advancements in dental science have come up with many solutions the most popular of which are veneers. Veneers are thin slices of porcelain that slip over your tooth and are cemented in place. They look great and can fix many minor dental imperfections. As an added bonus, they are not as expensive as some of the alternatives.
What Is So Great About Dental Veneers?
Probably what our patients like the most about veneers is that look just like real teeth. Once we have them in place you really can’t tell the difference between the veneer and the natural teeth in your mouth. One of the reasons for this is the material with which it’s made and the other reason is that we can match the veneers to the color of your natural teeth. This is a huge plus particularly if you are using veneers to cover badly stained teeth.
The next good thing about veneers is that they act like natural teeth. Although you don’t want to use the tooth covered with a veneer as a tool, as you may know, aside from that they perform just like your natural teeth.
Another benefit is that they are permanent. We prepare your tooth to accept the veneer and cement It in place. Once that is completed, your tooth is permanent. If you suffer from bruxism, clenching or grinding your teeth, you may have to wear a mouth guard at night to protect your veneers. Though they are permanent and are strong, they are not natural teeth and nothing can compare to the strength of your natural teeth.
