Office Updates

Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to our office. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.

Our office follows infection control recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). We follow the activities of these agencies so that we are up-to-date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued. We do this to make sure that our infection control procedures are current and adhere to each agencies’ recommendations.

You may see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff.

The Benefits of Dental Implants
West Columbia, SC

Senior woman smiling after receiving Dental ImplantsWhen a person loses a tooth, they also lose something so much more: their ability to smile freely and with confidence. Tooth loss can deal a serious blow to the self-esteem of even the most assured person, and after losing a permanent tooth, they may find themselves hiding their smile from their friends and family.

Feeling self-conscious about tooth loss does not mean that you are superficial or vain – it means that you are human! For the nearly 180 million American adults who have lost one or more tooth, we here at Carolina Smiles Family Dentistry strongly believe in the many advantages of replacing the tooth with a dental implant.

Why Dental Implants are a Great Choice

The fact of the matter is that tooth loss is not just a cosmetic problem. Sure, it can make a person feel poorly about themselves, but that is only part of the problem. Losing one of your permanent, adult teeth can also negatively impact your quality of life. You may start to notice pain in your mouth when trying to bite or chew. Your other teeth may also start to shift and move into the opening left behind, leading to even more tooth loss.

Your gums may start to shrink and recede, and bone loss is not uncommon. Your face can also take on a sagging, prematurely aged appearance, making you look careworn and older than you are. It can also be harder to talk and speak clearly without your teeth in place to help you to talk.

That is why it is so important to get a dental implant to restore your missing tooth! There are so many benefits to getting them, making it a fantastic choice for our patients who are good candidates for this procedure! Not only are dental implants attractive, but they are also permanent. That means you will not have to replace them every few years or worry about accidentally embarrassing yourself with poorly fitting dentures. They also have a remarkably high success rate, at an incredible 98 percent.

How Dental Implants Can Help You

A dental implant is a strong and sturdy restoration. Unlike dentures, it does not impair your ability to bite or chew. Your bite force will be completely restored with a dental implant. They can also help improve your speech, as you will not be talking around a mouthful of dentures or have a space in your smile that can make it harder for you to talk. You can eat all of your favorite foods with a dental implant, and you can do so without worrying that your implant will become dislodged.

Dental implants are also incredibly convenient. You do not need to remove them to clean them. You can brush and floss them just like your real teeth. They are also quite comfortable, as they feel just like real teeth in your mouth. Moreover, unlike dentures, you can stop any bone loss in your jaw in its tracks with a dental implant. Dental implants fuse to your jawbone, which means that they will remain strong and sturdy in your mouth for the rest of your life.
